How To Practice Gratitude

Life/Identity

Do you need help with being happy and content with what you have? Are you wanting to practice gratitude, but aren’t sure where to start? Girl, I have been there. If you are looking for ways to practice gratitude with three easy tips, this blog post is for you.

My Gratitude Revelation

Recently, I had a gratitude revelation. My landlord hit my car, and my car is older. (It’s a 2008 Prius) and has no real problems other than people like to hit my car. It’s been hit 4 times, and none of them have been my fault.

Car hit

So, since my car is older and my landlord hit it, I thought, “Okay, I will just start looking for a new car.” I really want a Rav4, but buying a new one is outside the budget.

I continued to look for a new car, knowing my car was fine, thinking I might find one that was cheap and the interest rate wasn’t outrageous. Interest rates are like 7% right now! That’s really high!

What really changed my perspective was after I got my car back from having the damage fixed and I didn’t have a car for a day and a half, I realized how grateful I was to have my car. Yes, it’s old and may get hit again in the future, but it works.

I thought I would be happy with a new car. Something prettier, and that couldn’t get hit. A girl can dream, right? But at the end of the day, my car works just fine, and a new car won’t make me happy. Having a content life and practicing gratitude will.

How You Can Practice Gratitude & Contentment In Your Own Life

Implementing and practicing gratitude in your life is possible with these 3 tips.

Tip 1: Gratitude Journal

Having a gratitude journal can help you learn to be thankful for what you have and be grateful.

Even if you use a journal to write down what you’re thankful for throughout the day. (Link here if you are looking to purchase a journal!)

Tip 2: Ask Yourself, What You Are Grateful For Today?

Asking yourself what you are grateful for can be hard when your world seems to be spinning upside down. I know I have been there, but remembering where you have been will help you with what you are grateful for today.

If you ask me, Ashley, what are you grateful for today? My apartment. Yes, I get a little upset that I live in an apartment at 35. But there were times in my life when I had nothing. My family had lived in a homeless shelter with friends and family. We didn’t even have a place to call home… our home. So, I remind myself where I have been and that I have a place to call home.

So, remember where you have been the next time you are struggling with being grateful for what you have.

This helps open up your mind to what you are grateful for today.

Tip 3: Surround Yourself With Grateful People

Surround yourself with grateful people and practice gratitude. They might not come out and say, “I’m practicing gratitude,” but you can see their gratitude by how they interact with people, carry themselves, and are happy.

Even on their worst days, they still bring a smile to people they interact with, and their love for the Lord shows.

I can think of people who are grateful even for the tiny little things in life.

Surround yourself with people who are just grateful for what they have, who they are, and who they love.

Conclusion About Practicing Gratitude

By practicing gratitude, you can learn to live contently with what you have. You can practice gratitude by journaling, asking yourself what you are grateful for, and surrounding yourself with grateful people. The art of practicing gratitude can be recovered, and it will be retrieved with you with these 3 tips.
