You don’t have to be perfect for God to use you; I can prove it!
I used to think that I wasn’t Christian enough for God to use me. I know, such an odd thing, but what qualifies as enough?
What and when do we know we have reached enough?
How do you know you have reached the “enough” finish line?
The Book Of Exodus
I just finished reading the Book of Exodus. God used many people in the book who didn’t seem “enough” or weren’t “perfect,” but one story sticks out to me: the story of Moses.
From the beginning of his life, Moses struggled. Moses was an Israelite, and Israelites were God’s chosen people, except they lived in Egypt and were enslaved to the Egyptians.
Pharaoh wanted all of the baby boys killed, but God had other things in store for Moses. The mother of Moses placed him in a basket in the Nile, but Pharaoh’s daughter found Moses.
Moses was rescued and saved by none other than Pharaoh’s daughter, and grew up in Pharaoh’s household, and later on in the story, Moses would kill an Egyptian who was harming one of the Israelites.
Moses is a murderer, so he flees his land, but God still uses him. Even though Moses struggled with communication, he and his brother Aaron freed the Israelites after 10 plagues from Pharaoh.
You Don’t Have To Be Perfect For God To Use You
I used to get very insecure when others read my writing. I hated it when others had to proofread my papers or, even worse when I had to read out loud. In fact, one time in school, I read the paragraph for the next day’s class early and realized I could pronounce all of the words correctly, so I went to my teacher and asked if she could pick me to read the paragraph out loud the next day.
Do you know what happened? That scared little third grader read the paragraph out loud and didn’t do it perfectly.
My disability was on “display” that day and continues to be on “display.” My writing isn’t perfect, but even though it may be on display and I may always need someone to proofread it, it’s also on display for God.
God is using my biggest insecurity to help others; the same thing can be true for you.
You don’t have to be the best or even great at something for God to use you.
You need to allow God to do what he needs to do through you.
What is that one area of your life you wanted to try in, but felt you weren’t “perfect enough” to do well? What idea did you have in mind that you put on the back burner because you thought that others already did it better than you?
My friend, others may have done the thing you want to do, but none of those people are you. None of them hold your personality, your heart, and your calling.
Allow God to use you even if you don’t feel “perfect,” because Moses wasn’t perfect, and neither am I.
