Are you having trouble going to God first? If so, this week’s motivational blog post is for you.
Recently, I was at the grocery store trying to find a spice cake mix. For all you fall lovers, you understand why this cake is a must for any pumpkin recipe.
Typically, everything I need is usually on the top of the shelf. And when you are 4’11” and a ½ (yes, the half matters), you just get used to either looking at eye level for things or at the top of the shelf.
Okay, God
I was praying, “Okay, God, we have to find the spice cake mix.”
I walked up and down the aisle trying to find the mix with no luck.
And then, as I looked down at the bottom shelf, there was my spice cake mix!
I quickly thanked Jesus and put three spice cake mixes in my cart.
The spice cake mixes were right where my feet were planted, but I didn’t see them.
How often do we look on “different shelves”—AKA to outside sources—instead of right where we should be looking: right at the bottom of our shelves?
We go to outside sources in hopes of finding joy, and we ask a million people the same question to find some form of answer that will sit well with us. And sometimes, we even try things we shouldn’t.
We don’t often go right to God first.
I know I am guilty of this, and I only sometimes look at the bottom shelf. I don’t always go to God first.
Conclusion
Next time you want to look at other shelves, try looking at the bottom first.
Pray, ask God for direction or what to do, and try looking around you to try to find your spice cake.
