How often do we want to be somewhere else in life other than the current season we find ourselves in? I often want to be somewhere else. Maybe I’d like to have a house of my own, another dog (a girl can dream), or even live in a new state.
This idea got me thinking of a memory. I believe God doesn’t want me to forget it at times because it’s always in my head. (It’s a good memory, by the way.)
When I was a kid, probably around 11 or so (I was in foster care, so that’s why I can remember how old I was), I wanted to go somewhere, but my parents had other plans that day.
So, instead of going out and doing something, we stayed at home. I needed to do something fun, so I made my very own zoo. Yes, you read that correctly—I made a zoo. I made my zoo with my stuffed animals, and each animal had its own enclosure.
I used the whole house to create my zoo and ensured my parents took a tour.
I remember this being a magical time.
Today, I felt the same way. I wanted to go to a coffee shop and write, and I also wanted to get a PSL (pumpkin spiced latte), but I realized I had used all of my going-out money for the month.
So instead, here I sit in my house with my homemade PSL, hearing my dog go from snoring to chewing his bone to barking at the neighbor. (Owning a dog is so fun!)
Here are a few takeaways from these two experiences I have learned.
1. You Can Grow Where You Are
Life might not be the zoo you had in mind or the PSL, but you can still grow, learn, and explore where you are.
Start asking yourself where you can grow in this current season, as this is the preparation season for you—the season before the harvest.
2. You Can Still Enjoy Your Life
I am burning my Amber Noir candle at my kitchen table as I type this because I still want to enjoy my current life, and I like that for you, too.
You can still enjoy your current season of life even if it doesn’t look like what you had hoped.
3. Create Your Own PSL Life
PSL is one of my favorite fall drinks, and I know it is for many people. Even if you love a PSL from a certain coffee place, you can create your own PSL that’s just as good (maybe better!)..
What is that one adventure you want to try? What is that one area you feel you aren’t qualified for?Now is the time to create your PSL life.
If you want to try my PSL recipe, it’s below! (I’m no Betty Crocker, and it’s no Starbucks, but it will do!)
Here is my homemade pumpkin spice latte recipe:
- 2 tablespoons of pumpkin
- 3 tablespoons of maple syrup
- 1/4 cup of milk or heavy whipping cream (whatever you have on hand)
- 1 teaspoon of pumpkin spice mix
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon of brown sugar
- Pour over your coffee and mix it!
I have a small coffee maker, so I would double the recipe if you use a Keurig.
Conclusion
Your life is already here, so why not enjoy your current season of life? You don’t have to wait for the next season to begin. You can enjoy it right where you are.
So burn your favorite candle, make your PSL, and build your zoo, because your life should be enjoyed.
Let me know in the comment section if you try the recipe. Also, if you haven’t and want to share your own, I would love that.
