How Not To Give Up On Your Dreams

Featured

If you want to know how not to give up on your dreams, this blog post is for you.

“I don’t even care about the book anymore,” I said on the phone. “I’m just so frustrated,” I started to draw fake circles with my fingers on the steering wheel while I sat in the parking lot waiting to go on my run at the park.

My friend on the other end heard my words and said, “You are so close; you can’t give up now.” She was right, but I wondered why God called me to write when I felt like this.

The deadline was fast approaching, and the amount spent was adding up. I had to figure this out because I didn’t want to retract the launch date.

I knew God called me to write a book, but the writing part was easy. The hard part is editing and getting the layout right. Why did I want to quit my dream?

Have you ever been in a place where you wanted to throw in the towel when it became too hard? Did you want to give up on your dream because it seemed like it had become too much?

Here are my thoughts on what to do when you want to quit on your dreams.

Don’t Let Your Dreams Overwhelm You

When we have a dream in our little hearts, it’s fun and exciting at first, but then the daily tasks and the amount of time spent can become overwhelming.

But with a dream, you need to remember your “why.” I don’t believe your dream was placed in your heart to sit there. It’s there because God has given it to you. Yes, part of your dream changes occasionally, but that doesn’t mean your core dream changed.

Allow your dreams to shift when needed, and give yourself grace.

My first book was just released a few weeks ago, and I’m glad I didn’t throw in the towel that day in the parking lot or any of the 1,000000 other times I wanted to quit on my dream. I allowed my dream to shift when I needed it to and gave myself grace when feeling overwhelmed.

And I want that for you! Allow your dreams to shift when needed, and give yourself grace when you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Don’t Allow Fear To Delay Your Dream

Many years ago, I was told that I would write a book, and I honestly thought each person who shared this news with me was NUTS!!!!!

I don’t like sharing my last name with people, so why in the world would I share a book with my thoughts, feelings, and hopes in it?

Yay, no, thank you!

But you know what was holding me back? Fear! Plus, a little anxiety, too!

But as each year passed and everyone continued to share their words with me, I decided I could write.

I learned that fear can become real when we start to put our dreams into motion. It becomes visible, while before, it was just an afterthought when the dream was just a dream.

I always say when God calls you to it, he will see you through it. (I think that should be a sticker!)

Don’t allow fear to stop you from your dream. (Because God will continue to bring your dream to the surface and make it a reality!)

Don’t Let The Fear Of Expecting Fast Results Stop You

I used to think that fast results meant God’s blessing or stamp of approval in a way.

God is in Heaven with a stamp on our packet, complete with dreams, waiting to make them a reality.

But that isn’t the case.

Remember the saying, slow and steady wins the race?

Well, it’s true!

I previously asked another small business owner what she would tell someone who is just starting, and you know, one of the first things she said was, “Start small. You don’t rush.”

Most business owners don’t see success in their business immediately, and you don’t typically see fast results immediately.

Conclusion

Your dream is still essential yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Don’t let feeling overwhelmed, the fear of starting, and expecting fast results stop you from God’s calling.

I don’t know anyone who hit it big right after starting on their dream. They had long nights and lots of time, and God helped to make their dreams a reality.

God can make your dreams a reality too. So, don’t stop dreaming.

Comment below your dream. I would love to hear it.
